Diana L. Swezy received a bachelor’s degree in elementary art education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Her master of arts in studio art was awarded from Central Missouri State University. She received her doctorate in educational administration and leadership from the University of Kansas. Her dissertation was on the evolution of E. F. Swinney Elementary a math and science magnet school. This magnet program pre-dated the massive federally mandated desegregation school program. She worked extensively at the central office level in Kansas City Public Schools with K-12 educators as the 3.4 billion dollar magnet program was implemented. She was a Fulbright scholar living in Holland to study Dutch Art, Architecture, and Society. Dr. Swezy left Kansas City Public Schools to become the principal at Gordon Parks Elementary School where she designed and implemented a program for fragile urban core children. She is currently the principal at Santa Fe Accelerated Elementary School in the Hickman Mills C-1 School district. She co-authored an article for Art Education, The Journal of the National Art Education Association, Comparing: Four Figures. July 1996. Her love of architecture has recently led her to work on a warm space loft build out. She currently lives in the heart of a downtown Kansas City building renaissance.
