Brian A Freeland

Brian Freeland is the Program Director for Sports and Health Sciences and Sports Management at American Public University. Brian’s administrative responsibilities include supervising, evaluating, and mentoring online faculty; selecting, retaining, and managing online faculty; and ensuring quality faculty interaction and involvement with students. Brian also teaches several online college courses in the academic disciplines of sports and health sciences and sports management. In the past three years, Brian has formed an agreement with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) that provides APUS students with discounted exam fees and preparation materials. Brian also led the initiative to become an educational provider for the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) that provides APUS students the opportunity to earn a variety of coaching certifications.

Prior to Brian’s work at the collegiate level, he taught Health and Physical Education at the elementary, middle, and high school level. During that tenure, he also coached high school boy’s basketball. During the 2005-2006 season, he guided Rockbridge County High School in Lexington, Virginia to their first winning season in the fourteen-year history of the school and was voted Valley District Coach of the Year.

Brian possesses a Master’s of Science degree in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from Radford University. Presently, Brian is working toward a PhD at Northcentral University. Brian’s focus and philosophy on education center on helping students evolve academically and personally through providing innovative teaching strategies that encourage, motivate, and challenge students to reach their full potential.
