The Associate of Arts in General Studies degree is designed to provide a solid foundation for further academic achievement, providing students opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities that are readily applicable to the student’s personal or professional interests. The program also prepares students for entry into baccalaureate degree programs.

Program Objectives:

  • Graduates will be able to use knowledge across a wide diversity of subjects, views, works, and authors, from which they will have a general academic foundation.
  • Graduates will be able to identify their personal, ,academic, and professional/career goals and strategies that are integrated within a meaningful approach to life.
  • Graduates will be able to effectively read, write, and analyze across a number of disciplines.
  • Graduates will be able to identify issues and problems, then formulate and frame solutions to these problems.

Degree Program Requirements

Required Course - 3 semester hours
General Education Requirements (34 semester hours)
English - 6 semester hours
Social Sciences - 6 semester hours
Science - 4 semester hours including the required 1 hour labs
Mathematics - 3 semester hours
History - 6 semester hours
Humanities - 3 semester hours
Literature - 3 semester hours
All literature courses require successful completion of ENGL101 - Proficiency in Writing or ENGL102 - Effectiveness in Writing
Political Science - 3 semester hours
Elective Requirements (24 semester hours)

Students must complete 24 semester hours comprised of lower (100-200) level courses not taken to fulfill the requirements listed above. Additional general education courses may be taken to fulfill elective requirements.
